Purpose of Establishment
The society aims to contribute to the development and dissemination of meteorology, atmospheric environment, climate, climate change and to contribute to national development through research and development in science and technology and information exchange.
Composition
The organization is comprised of a chairman (1 person), a vice-chairman (1 person), vice-chairpersons (up to 6 people, including the director of the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences and the commander of the Air Force Weather Agency), directors (up to 25 people), auditors (2 people), councilors (up to 250 people), and 15 honorary chairpersons, along with 60 group members and over 3,500 individual members. Most of the members are made up of professors from meteorological agencies and atmospheric science universities, researchers, students, and employees in the environmental industry.
Main Activity
  • 01. The organization holds spring academic conferences by discipline in April to May every year and holds regular general meetings and autumn academic conferences in October to November.
  • 02. Annually publishing 4 issues of the international academic journal APJAS (Korean Journal of Meteorology) and 4 issues of the domestic academic journal Atmosphere.
  • 03. Operating five divisions in major areas: Climate Division, Atmospheric Physics Division, Environmental and Applied Meteorology Division, Atmospheric Dynamics and Numerical Modeling Division, Observation and Forecast Division.
  • 04. The organization either independently hosts or co-hosts various international academic conferences such as the Asian Conference on Meteorology (ACM) and domestic academic presentations.
  • 05. The organization encourages and evaluates meteorological research, presenting academic awards, excellence paper awards, and contributions awards.
  • 06. The organization either hosts or supports various policy forums and discussions related to meteorology.
